Fifteen Pornography Companies, 2006,
an artist book by Louisa Van Leer Now available at these bookstores and museums: NYC // Printed Matter, Specific Object Los Angeles // Hammer Museum, MOCA, Hennesey & Ingalls Books, Arcana Books, Skylight Books Amsterdam // Sashin Books "Fifteen Pornography Companies" pays homage to the art of Ed Ruscha and the dozens of small photo books he created in the 60's and 70's on architectural typologies endemic to the Southern California Landscape from gas stations, to swimming pools, to parking lots. The book works as an update to Ruscha's typologies to include a more contemporary, ubiquitous Southern California entity; the pornography production company. The photograph's reveal the mundane, nearly invisible side of an otherwise sensationalized industry that permeates the Los Angeles landscape. |
